A progression is a sequence of postures or actions, usually taken verbatim from a period treatise. They are practiced by WMA practitioners, not for their value as combat tactics, but as a study aid.

Progressions should not be confused with assalti. An assalto is identified as such by the author of a treatise; a progression is something drawn from the text by later scholars.
