Capo Ferro's second and sixth dagger postures. |
A dagger is a bladed weapon similar in many ways to a sword, but shorter. In many schools of rapier fencing, a dagger is held in the fighter's off hand and used to make both parries and attacks. There are also methods for fighting with dagger alone.

Postures with rapier
Most authors of rapier treatises give a method for dagger use.
- Capo Ferro gives six rapier-and-dagger positions: see Gran Simulacro plate 3, Gran Simulacro plate 4, and Gran Simulacro plate 5.
- Fabris shows twenty-two separate dagger positions (some differing only in foot placement): see Fabris plate 49 and on.
