A tournament format in which each fighter has two "lives"; he must lose two fights to be eliminated.
The tournament is implemented with two "brackets": a winners' bracket, and a losers' bracket.
The winners' bracket works like single elimination, except that the losers, instead of being eliminated, drop down into the losers' bracket.
Each round in the losers' bracket is in two stages. In the first stage, the winners from the previous round of the losers' bracket fight, just like in single elimination. The losers in this stage are eliminated, since they have lost two fights. The winners fight the new arrivals from the winners' bracket.
