Sadly little record remains of the life of Johannes Liechtenauer (or Lichtenauer). Born most likely sometime in the early to mid 14th century. What we do know comes from manuscripts such as MS 3227a and the Fechtbücher (combat manuals, literaly "fight books") of his students and followers during the two-plus centuries that the German Method of fencing was popular in the courts and schools of Europe.
