Fior di Battaglia, Wrestling Play 1.jpg
The first play of Fiore dei Liberi's manuscript Fior di Battaglia (the "Flower of Battle") is a master play that demonstrates how to isolate the movements of a close quarter assailant and enter into the further grappling plays of the wrestling section. A master play serves as a starting point for collections of techniques in Fiore's manuscript. The master figure in the play wears a crown, while in subsequent plays his scholars wear a garter. These scholar plays show conclusions of the technique the master began.

Fior di Battaglia is the first known manuscript in the Italian School of martial arts. Fiore heavily influenced the works of many subsequent masters, most notably Philipo Vadi.
