Fiore's 12 Longsword Positions or poste represent the core foundation for the blows and defenses for the sword-in-two-hands as shown in Fiore's manuscript the Flos Duellatorum. The positions are stopping points that a fighter may find themselves in during combat at the beginning or end of a blow, or when a blow is interrupted. Understanding and exercising from these positions provides a fighter with the ability to act quickly and fluidly at any point in combat.
